LANDSLIDE SHED, FIREFIGHTERS SAVE 50 THOUSAND CHICKS

A special tracked robot was used to push the chicks to the exit. Two LPG tanks were also secured

Landslides do not leave even isolated and sometimes directly affected poultry farms in the Apennines unscathed.
In Bucchio, a town in the municipality of Santa Sofia in the province of Forlì-Cesena, some 50,000 chicks rescued by firefighters after a shed suffered extensive damage from a landslide.
For the successful completion of the operation, necessary to secure two LPG tanks involved in the landslide itself.
It all started on the day of May 24 with an initial inspection to check the condition of the farm sheds and tanks.
In the evening, the Venice NBCR nucleus, which specializes in hazardous substances and transfers, secured and cleaned up the two canisters.
Then, on the morning of the following day, animal recovery operations began.
Due to the precarious conditions of stability of one of the two sheds, it was necessary to use a special vehicle, Trypper, a tracked electric robot, with which the fire brigade pushed the chicks towards the exit routes to be rescued.
Six teams and several vehicles were on the scene, including two tank pump cars and all-terrain vehicles. The Provincial Command officer coordinated the field operations; the ASL veterinary doctor was also present.
